Ecological momentary assessment of drug use in nightlife settings

Ecological momentary assessment (often called “EMA”) is a term for a research method that takes repeated measurements from people in their natural environments in order to assess current states or behaviours. We plan to use this approach to look at the predictors and effects of drug use on nights out. Using a smartphone app, we will ask people to tell us what drugs they use and when during a night out, and how they are feeling over the next few days. This will give us a detailed insight into different drug use patterns over the course of an evening, and what the effects of these different patterns might be.
